Event Objectives

1.      To involve citizens, communities, and organizations in large-scale cleanliness drives.

2.      To encourage shramdaan and create a national jan andolan (public movement) for cleanliness.

3.      To target and clean difficult, neglected, or high-footfall areas like bus stands, railway stations, beaches, and drains.

4. To prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of sanitation workers through initiatives like health check-ups and welfare camps.

Event Outcomes

1.      SHS has been effective in mobilizing citizens, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), self-help groups (SHGs), and youth for large-scale voluntary cleanliness drives, known as shramdaan.

2.      Campaigns consistently see huge numbers of participants. In 2023, over 109 crore people participated over 18 days, with 53 crore contributing shramdaan.

3.      Improved sanitation and waste management

4.      The drives directly lead to cleaner public spaces. In 2023, the campaign revitalized thousands of riverbanks and waterfronts and cleaned tens of thousands of garbage-vulnerable sites.

5. A key focus is on tackling legacy waste and implementing solid waste management. The 2025 campaign highlighted that urban India now processes over 81% of its solid waste, a huge leap from 16% in 2014
